Billy Idol
played
Copps Coliseum, in Hamilton on August 7, 2008 Steeltown Kids had
a
great vantage point for the show.
Today,
August 6, 2008, me and mom went to a Def Leppard concert. First
we drove to Copps Coliseum. Mom, with her expert driving skills,
acquired a spot directly across the street from it. We went
inside to see if she could get her Who tickets from the Will
Call. She couldn't-- she needed her credit card. Then we
went to McDonald's and she got a free small cone (in a cup, of course)
for me, and a free small fries and a chocolate milkshake for her.
We sat on a bench so she could eat her fries. A deaf guy came up
with "I am a deaf person" cards. We didn't take one. I ate
my ice cream while we walked around. We went back in the van, where
I read Matilda. Then we stood in line at the Copps doors for
about 5 minutes beforee the line started to move. We went down an
escalator and bought a $40 Def Leppard t-shirt (which I quickly put on)
and a Billy Idol keychain. We went into the concert area and
found our seats--row 3, seats 1 & 2, at the right--and also saw
where Mom and Paris would be sitting for the Who. We sat and
waited a bit (music was playing) and at 7:00 Billy Idol came on,
bringing "all heck with him". His first song was a number called
"Cradle of Love". He did 4 songs I know: Eyes Without a Face,
White Wedding, Rebel Yell, and Dancing By Myself. He didn't
disappoint me. I was prepared for some fat, balding, "Punk dude".
The lead guitarist (Steve Stevens) was pretty good, but he
felt obliged to have three cigarettes during the 10 or so songs.
The drummer kept throwing his sticks in the air--and missing. He
reminded me of Keith Moon and lo! and behold! he was wearing a Moon
shirt with Keith's picture on it. Billy threw autographed paper
plates and a drumstick. Their last song was Rebel Yell.
